History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The works of the artist Shavkat Abdusalamov known under the creative alias “Shavkat-A” are presented in the Treasury Chamber of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. The exhibition titled “Wanderer” was opened yesterday, on May 28. The artist himself and guests from Vologda, Kirillov and Ferapontovo attended the opening ceremony.

Shavkat Abdusalamov arrived in the Vologda region the day before and met with residents of Kirillov. Visitors of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes had an opportunity to congratulate the artist on the opening of his exhibition and to take part in a small tour conducted by him. Besides, Shavkat Abdusalamov thanked the museum employees for staging the display, “Coming here, first I didn’t even recognize my works – I looked at them from a new angle. I felt a guest”.


During his long career Shavkat Abdusalamov has explored several roles: he is not only an artist, but also actor, writer, script writer and director. Marina Tarkovskaya, sister of the famous Soviet film director on whose movies Shavkat Abdusalamov worked, told about him, “First this person amazes, then charms and then you begin to love him. Andrey Tarkovsky had probably such feelings to Shavkat… Andrey was among the first who bought his pictures…”. Now his creative work is presented in Ferapontovo.


The exhibition “Wanderer” will be open till late June. Visitors of the museum will be able to see a wonderful world of the person whose life philosophy was highly appreciated by Tonino Guerra, Italian script writer who was given the Academy Awards. The works of Shavkat Abdusalamov will leave neither average men nor art critics indifferent.
