History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The off-site meeting of the Businessmen’s Club of the Regional Public Organization “Vologda Friendly Association” in Moscow took place in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve over the last weekend. Representatives of the local self-government bodies and private enterprise of Kirillov participated in the event along with members of this organization. At the beginning of the meeting, famous army general Y.N. Baluyevsky handed over his uniform and documents to the museum. He studied in the Kirillov Secondary School and sometimes he visits this region that has become native for him.


S.V. Usov, head of the Kirillov district, and Ilya Smirnov, deputy director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, greeted all people who gathered in the conference hall and wished them fruitful work. The meeting was timed to the 5th anniversary of the club foundation. Therefore some reports about the work done within this period of time were the first issues on the agenda. Chairman V.V. Zolotov and auditor V.L. Stepanov addressed the meeting. Besides, a number of organizational questions were solved: election of the new board of the club, admission of new members, and expulsion of some members who hadn’t participated in the club activity. All decisions were made by balloting.


Then it was the turn of the host party to give some reports. S.V. Usov, head of the Kirillov district, told the guests about the current situation in the district having touched all spheres of work: from agriculture to construction of new housing. A.V. Yulin, deputy head of the Kirillov District Administration, suggested that all members of the club should join in restoration of the burnt down chapel on the Maura Hill. A.V. Popov, director general of the LLC “Restoration Centre – Architecture, Manufacture, Training”, reported about a new chapel. Ilya Smirnov, deputy director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, introduced two investment proposals. One of them was about publication of the Inventory of Structures and Property of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery of 1771-1773. The second one concerned the draft of the guarded car park. It is due to be built in the near future. The members of the club became interested in them and decided to discuss them in detail privately.


The meeting was concluded with an award ceremony of the members who took an active part in the club activity with diplomas and medals. Besides, the books of G.A. Sazonov were presented during the event. The writer tells about the outstanding residents of the Vologda region in his works, for example, about Russian benefactor Khristofor Ledentsov. According to G.A. Sazonov, in spite of the artistic style of his books, they are based on the historical facts.


During the visit to Kirillov, the members of the Businessmen’s Club honoured the fallen soldiers and the participants of the Great Patriotic War who had died in peacetime going to the Motherland Memorial and laying flowers at it. Besides, a large tour program was organized for the guests – they went to see the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve and the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes.
