History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The events marking the 525th anniversary of the construction of the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral took place in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. Pupils attended the lecture on the history of this church on September 22. The archival pre-revolutionary photographs of the cathedral were first presented at the lesson. Besides, the children learnt about restoration of the ancient architectural monument, its originality and the frescoes of Dionisy. Then the presentation “Warrior and Custodian” about V.I. Vyushin who had guarded the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral alone within almost 30 years was held in the administrative building of the museum. The visitors were told about earlier unknown data about the military feat of Valentin Vyushin in the Great Patriotic War during his participation in the battles near Velikiye Luki.

One more event was a presentation of the book titled “Presentation in the Temple” written by Alexander Mikhaylovich Kopirovsky, Professor of the St. Philaret’s Christian Orthodox Institute, art critic and Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences. Father Georgy (Kochetkov), Orthodox theologian, catechist, founder and rector of the St. Philaret’s Christian Orthodox Institute; first pro-rector Dmitry Gasak, teachers and graduates of this religious educational institution attended the meeting.

The book “Presentation in the Temple” contains some articles of Alexander Kopirovsky about masterpieces of church art and painting on the Christian subject. Each section describes this or that element of the church: architecture, murals, icons and so on. Some photographs of the architectural monuments of the Ferapontov Monastery given to the author by the museum were used as illustrations to the articles. This book is destined for students of theological and other directions of the humanities in the universities. Later its presentation took place in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve that became a part of the tour for Moscow’s guests. Several examples of the book were given by the author to the museum scientific library during the meeting.
